Who We Are

Welcome to St. Paul’s by-the-Sea, a vibrant church community in the historic resort town of Ocean City, Maryland.

Our formal mission statement is to “Love God, Serve the World”

In recent years we have come to interpret our mission as “Feeding People: Body, Soul and Spirit.” Here are some of the main ways we feed others:

Body: Shepherd’s Crook, The NOEL Community, Parish Events, and various social gatherings throughout the year.

Soul: The various programs offered through our many ministries and outreach.

Spirit: Worship from the breadth of the Episcopal tradition, a variety of Christian formation offerings and individual pastoral care.

Located just steps from the Atlantic Ocean, St. Paul’s by-the-Sea has been ministering to Ocean City residents and visitors for over a century. The parish was founded in 1878 as a summer mission of St. Paul’s in Berlin, Maryland. We invite you to join us in both our formal and informal missions by learning more about them throughout our website.

We currently offer a 10am Sunday service, either Holy Eucharist Rite II or Morning Prayer Rite II. This service is accompanied by music. To make it easy to follow the service, we provide a printed bulletin that includes all hymns and liturgy, all of which are also projected on monitors at the front of the church. Services are in-person and live streamed to our Facebook page.

We are making a concerted effort to reach out to the Latino community by offering a bulletin that contains the entire service in both English and Spanish. We also provide Forward Day-by-Day devotionals in Spanish.

Since the Fall of 2020, we have had parishioners licensed to be Worship Leaders through the Bishop’s Institute for Discipleship, Leadership and Ministry. On Sundays when supply clergy is not available, the Worship Leaders provide morning prayer services.
