This past year members of Temple Bat Yam conducted an extensive search for a new rabbi to lead us and fulfill our spiritual and educational needs. Our search lasted for months during which our travels brought us to Rabbi Arthur S. Rutberg, DD.
Rabbi Rutberg has a very strong and varied background. He has a BA degree from New York University, a MA in Hebrew literature earned at Hebrew Union College where he received his ordination and earned a Doctor of Divinity. Of interest to many is Rutberg’s 10 years as an active and reserve chaplain in the U.S. Army. Rabbi Rutberg is active in interfaith activities, and partnering with local food banks. He has provided pastoral counseling and leadership in many arenas. Rabbi Rutberg’s knowledge is deep and he is able to bring his knowledge to us in an almost mesmerizing manner bringing the essence of Torah alive. Joining us with Rabbi Rutberg is his lovely, energetic wife, Sara. Sara is an accomplished textile artist and terrific cook and bake. Early on Sara told me they are a team. While Rabbi Rutberg started his journey with Temple Bat Yam July 1 st of this year, he will be officially installed as our rabbi on Friday September 24, 2021 at 7:30pm.

Dear Rabbi and Mrs. Rutberg, September 21, 2021
On behalf of the vestry and congregation of St. Paul’s by-the Sea Episcopal Church, welcome to the Ocean City community. We are so pleased to learn that Temple Bat Yam has called you to serve their congregation and the people of our community.
I regret that a personal commitment will keep me from attending your installation of September 24, but please know that our congregation will be with you in spirit. We have a history of involvement with your congregation and your previous clergy leadership. We hope to build on that association as you become more familiar with our community and its ministries.
On a personal note, my wife Debbie and I have had the good fortune to be friends and neighbors with several members of your congregation. We know how much they have looked forward to your presence as spiritual leaders for your community. As you become more acclimated to the community, I would be happy to meet with you at your convenience.
We pray for your success and all of God’s blessings on your work with Temple Bat Yam.
Sincerely,
Tom Shuster, Senior Warden tom.shuster@comcast.net
