Helen Elizabeth George Ballard Obituary

Helen Elizabeth George Ballard, age 94 and 11 months, died peacefully at her home on July 18, 2017.  Her family is comforted by God’s holy presence with the promise of eternal life in Christ.

Born in Washington, DC August 7th 1922 she was the daughter of the late Raymond Vernon George and Marguerite Price George.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester S. Ballard and her son Lester V.  Ballard (Peewee)

She is survived by her children Beverly Cooper and her husband, Gary of Delmar, DE, Gary Ballard and his wife, Aggie, of Laurel, MD,  Roger Ballard and his wife, Mary, of Middletown, DE,  and Lesley Todd  and her husband, Mark of Stevensville, MD.

There are eleven grandchildren, Teddi  Kerno and her husband, Bob, Mark Cooper and his wife, Karen, Matthew Cooper and his wife Denise, Stacey Riley and her husband, Chris, David Ballard, Brian Ballard and his wife, Amy, Brent Ballard and his wife, Carly, Brittany Brainer and her husband, Brad, Samantha Rutherford and her husband, Matthew, Jeremy Todd and Cameron Todd. Seven great- grandchildren, Kevin Kerno and  his wife, Karen, Sarah Bryant and her husband, Kevin, Elizabeth Boula and her husband, Jeremy, Patrick Riley, Ben Ballard, Kristin Stortini, and Paul Stortini, as well as one great-great-grandson, Owen Boula.

She is also survived by her brother, Raymond V. George Jr., of Severn, MD and her daughter-in-law Barbara Ballard of Elizabethton, TN.

In addition to raising five children, she worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring on her 62nd birthday.

She was very active in her church, St. Pauls by the Sea Episcopal Church until her illness, in which she loved singing church hymns, loved going to New York City for the theater with her daughter Beverly and with her church family.

She was an avid Washington Redskin fan and loved
Georgetown University Men’s Basketball.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 1:00 PM at  Church of the Holy Spirit Episcopal in Ocean City, MD with Rev. Matthew D’Amario and Rev. Rosemary W. Backer officaiting.  Inurnment will be at St. Paul’s By the Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City, MD at a later date.

We as a family cannot begin to express how thankful we are for the care provided to our mom.  The family wishes to thank all who cared for her over the past many years from Seasons Hospice: Linda, Barbara, Sherry, Hubie, Nicole, Johni, Donna, Shaqueta, Alicia, Jennifer, Belinda, and Renee.  Special thanks to Stephanie, Sue and Tanna, former helpers for our mom. A very special thanks goes to Drs. Harris and Simonson, Chaplain Harry, music therapist Steve, Brian, and Jillian, and social worker, Elaine for their continued care and compassion. We would be remiss if we didn’t recognize our friend from Interim Health, Patsy and Polly from United Health Care Community and State.

We know that Helen has entered the loving embrace of God the Father, and may all who mourn her passing be consoled in God’s love.
